If I?m unable to solve a complex accounting problem, I try to work it out using the simple round numbers. Then it?s much easier to see the logic of the computation. If the logic is OK and the result with the round and straight figures is OK, I?m repeating the same pattern on real values.

The second way is division of the complex computation in single simple components. Just exactly like in a primary school. I don?t try to calculate the result at once but step by step, and then combine all the steps to the final result. It allows me to check even the most complex calculations and it is harder to get lost (or easier to find a mistake).

With these simple methods, I was able to create some very complex algorithms, which were then "dragged" into the 24iValue.com web based tool for accountants and auditors. I?m successfully using this two simple methods also during every day work (I'm an auditor and I also keep the books of a few companies).
